Professor Albert Chan had 5 years hands-on experience in the field of construction project management before changing to an academic career in 1987. He is a Chartered Builder, Engineer, Project Manager, and Surveyor by profession. Prof. Chan has worked in a number of tertiary institutions both in Hong Kong and overseas, including City Polytechnic, the predecessor of the City University of Hong Kong, University of South Australia, Queensland University of Technology, Bond University, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has been commissioned by a number of organisations to provide consultancy services in project management and construction economics. Prof. Chan holds an MSc in Construction Management and Economics at the University of Aston in Birmingham, and a PhD in Project Management at the University of South Australia. He is an Adjunct Professor of the University of South Australia, and Queensland University of Technology, and Bond University, Australia, and a Founding Director of the Construction Industry Institute, Hong Kong. His current research interests are in project management & project success, project finance and public private partnerships (PPP), construction procurement and relationship contracting, construction industry development,  and construction safety.
