Professor Francis Wong, BSc(Hons), MSc, PhD, FCIOB, FHKIE, FHKICM, RPE(Bldg), MRICS, MCIArb, MCMI, MIOSH, obtained his BSc (Hons) in Building Degree from the Brighton Polytechnic in the U.K. He worked for a building contractor in Hong Kong in 1980 and the Mass Transit Railway Corporation two years after. In 1984, he joined the Department. In 1988, he completed his Master's Degree at the University of London, majored in building economics and management. He completed his PhD Degree at the South Bank University in England in 2000 on 'Construction Safety in Hong Kong'. He is currently the Director of the Research Centre for Construction and Real Estate Economics. In terms of community and professional services, he was the Senior Vice-Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Building (HK Branch) in year 1994/95. Chairman of the Safety Specialist Group of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in Year 1999/2000, and Vice-chairman of the Construction Safety and Health Committee of the Occupational Safety and Health Council in Hong Kong from 2001 to 2004. |

| The Gold Medal and the Award are for the design of the product entitled ¡¥Rapid Demountable Platform¡¦(RDP), which is a temporary working platform to be used by workers for repair and maintenance works at the external wall of high-rise buildings. | |
| Members of the research team include colleagues from the Department of Building and Real Estate, the Industrial Centre and the School of Design. Francis is the Co-Principal Investigator of the research team. | |
